29 Paterikon for Kids - English - The Blessed Surgeon- St. Luke

The Adversary is, as the Church and our own experience teach us, not only wicked but also sly; he has deceived many. One way he uses to destroy the most beautiful of all creatures is by spreading the anti-ecclesiastical false teaching of socialism in its many wicked forms. Tens of millions have died at the hands of those deceived by his empty promises. Dozens of thousands of Orthodox priests have been executed by the socialists, and thousands of Churches have been burnt down, together with countless Holy Relics, Icons, and other treasures. Saint Luke, the Surgeon, was one of those hierarchs who, albeit spared death, suffered immensely at his persecutors' hands. What do you tell your kids about the persecution of the Orthodox Christians in the former Soviet Union and other dictatorial regimes?
