Archangel Raphael Icon - S391
Archangel Raphael Icon - S391
Description
Saint Raphael is one of the seven traditionally named Archangels of God. His name means "healing of God," and his intercessions are frequently sought for healing.
He makes his biblical appearance twice in the book of Tobit. Tobit had been blinded, and Raphael was sent by God to heal his blindness through anointing with the gall of a fish. (For this reason, Raphael is usually depicted with a fish and/or a medicine box.)
His scroll contains the words of Raphael when he revealed his identity: "I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels who report the prayers of the saints and who enter before the glory of the Holy One" (Tobit 12:15).
Saint Raphael's feast day is on November 8, together with the Archangels and Bodiless Powers.
