by Saint Nektarios
The holy memorial service of the Eastern Orthodox Church is a ceremony passed down from the earliest days of Christianity. In this treatise, Saint Nektarios Kefalas explains the ancient origins of this practice, its place in the life of the church, and its profound theological significance. Drawing on Scripture and a wealth of wisdom from the church fathers, he upholds the legitimacy of this tradition and shows how it came to be what it is today.
About the Author: Saint Nektarios the Wonderworker (1846–1920) has become one of the most well-known and much beloved Orthodox Christian saints of the contemporary age since his saintly glorification in 1961. At the age of thirty, he was tonsured a monk and given the name 'Nektarios' on the island of Chios and then ordained as a deacon three years later.
