Note: because the "tears" are a natural plant product, there is quite a bit of variation in the colour of the beads.

The story behind the beads:

This prayer bracelet is unique in that the beads come from a plant known as the “Tears of the Virgin Mary.” This plant sprouted miraculously under the Cross of Jesus Christ, during the hour of His crucifixion, from the compassionate tears of the Virgin Mary. 

In addition to the blessing the Virgin Mary left to mankind of her tears, she manifested a miracle by placing just such a prayer rope, made out of her “tears,” in the hands of a pious monk who was unable to make an actual woollen one himself. For this inability he would grieve to the Virgin Mary. She appeared and asked the monk, “Why are you so sad?” He replied, “Because on my own I cannot learn how to make a prayer rope.” She, as a sympathetic mother, gave him the seeds of this plant and said, “My child, take my tears, cultivate them, and make prayer ropes with which men may say the prayer of the heart.”
