Annunciation (Rublev) Icon - F102

This icon was written by the master iconographer Saint Andrei Rublev. It shows the Archangel Gabriel bringing the news of the news of Christ's Incarnation. The Virgin Mary receives the news with surprise, but at her amen, the Holy Spirit descended upon her (symbolically depicted as a dove). This is the moment at which she became the Theotokos.
